The Wings of an Angel

Van and Hitomi Back to Back

One day Kanzaki Hitomi is running a track meet when suddenly she sees vision of a young boy from another world named Van. With her psychic abilities and talent at reading tarot cards, Hitomi one day ends up transported to world on the other side of the moon called Gaea. There she must help Van save Gaea from Lord Dornkirk, who would like to control the fate of an entire planet. And along the way, a romance suddenly begins...

SD Van Van Fanel is the young prince of a kingdom called Fanelia. He is a gruff man whose brain is more interested in battle and vengeance than romance. In fact, in the beginning he and Hitomi don't really get along that well. Still, despite his arrogance we see very early on that he has a soft side to him (and of course ladies seem to love the emotional type who isn't afraid to cry at movies and all that *megitsune shudders at the thought*) which he doesn't quite want to show. One thing I like about Van is that he's not the angry-jealous type. Instead of blowing up when he sees Hitomi going nuts over Allen, he walks (or should I say runs?) away.  Oh, I know that's a lame reason to like an anime character, but for some reason I can't stand the aggressively envious type =D

Hitomi is a typical young girl in high school who is just in the midst of her freshman year (ahh yes most of us remember the good old days when tests meant plain ol' geometry and multiple choice questions and not massive killer prelims worth 60% of our grade).  Somewhat popular, Hitomi doesn't quite realize her own potential. After being transported to Gaea she must learn to use her psychic powers to help defeat some evil people bent on taking over the entire planet.  Personally, I think Hitomi starts out a bit wishy-washy. She vacillates quite a bit and doesn't really know what she wants (oh I know that's not a sin, but I prefer heroines who have their heart set on one person hehe).  What's worse, she doesn't always have much faith in Van.  Still, as the anime progresses I believe Hitomi matures a great deal and finally realizes that there's only one guy for her...Van. Plus she's not extremely ditzy like most anime girls so that's one plus for her! SD Hitomi

Why do I like this couple? Well it's because the two are just so darn innocent.  And I don't mean in a naive way or anything like that, but just in a nice way. We don't see 14 and 15 year olds making unrealistic commitments that in real life probably would be near impossible to live up to. As the title song says, "i don't need promises", and it's nice to know that in the end Van and Hitomi believe in each other and are extremely secure in their relationship (darn, that sounds so weird!) Let's just say they clear up their misunderstandings and live happily ever after (well...not quite but I'll try not to include massive spoilers in here) =D
