The Record of Lodoss Wars is a story about the
heroes of a warn-torn island country which spans 13 OAV's and 27 tv episodes.
But of course that doesn't bother me at all, the more the merrier,
ne? Anyway, Parn starts out as an ambitious young man whose goal is to become
a great knight like his father once was. Deedlit is a high elf with
the ability to use magic and a slight (that's putting it mildly) mischievous
streak. Put one determined elf and an extremely clueless knight together,
and wham! You've got chaos that makes the legendary wars of Lodoss
look like medieval May Day.
Come to think of it, Parn isn't exactly someone I'd fall into a hemorrhagic nose bleed over after seeing. In fact, when I first saw the OAV's, I thought he was a bit lame *ducks as ROLW fans toss not so fun things at me* Still, the plot was great and I kept going with the series and moved on to the actual TV series. My general Parn conclusion would be that he does get better as the story progresses. Parn is a hot-headed young man with high hopes. Not really the diplomatic type, he'd rather slice someone up with his sword than talk it over. But who doesn't like a tough guy who carries a big stick without talking softly? Ahem. Anyways by the end of it all Parn learns to separate his personal life from his duties and becomes a great hero in his own right. |
And who better to spice up Parn's personal life than a high elf? A pretty high elf at that! I just love the way Deedlit is drawn, she's just so cute! Although ditching that shoulder armor of hers sure would help. And when they talk about Kenshin and Kaoru's age difference, I have to just laugh since Deed is like 160 while Parn can't be older than 35 at the end of the TV series. Major relationship complications...Well Deedlit is a graceful elf who is charmed by Parn when they first meet. She travels with him as a companion and is always watching his back. But Parn of course remains oblivious throughout most of the beginning. However as the story moves on we see a look here or a hand touch there which proves that the relationship is going somewhere despite the snail-like pace (well Deedlit has time, centuries really! hehe) |
I enjoy watching Parn and Deedlit interact because they're just so amusing. Though Parn does seem to get a bit uncomfortable when Deedlit tries to get him to dance. The big oaf should be counting his blessings, but the sky would have to come crashing down on us before he would take some decent advice on the matter. Deedlit, however, remains as playful and persistent as ever and I assume her persistence has worn down Parn's obliviousness (ouch, is that even a word?). Not to mention the numerous times she's helped Parn out. Actually, their relationship seems to be different from most anime in that its not the main focus of the plot (of course we see that in RK and a bit in Escaflowne, but not to that extent). This makes watching these two interesting because the romantics out there are just holding their breaths while waiting for something to happen, and we all know that the chase is the best part of the romance =D
