For My Loved One

Miaka and Tamahome

Miaka and Tamahome

The story of a miko and the seven men sworn to protect her begins when a young girl named Yuuki Miaka and her best friend Hongou Yui open the "Four Gods Sky and Earth" book found in a restricted section of the library.  Thus Miaka and Yui are transported to another world which strangely resembles ancient China.  There they are saved from a bunch of thugs (in fact I think they were trying to pick up some slaves to sell or something like that) by a young man with the character of "ogre" on his forehead...and there we have it, love at first sight.

SD Tamahome Miaka's savior is Tamahome, a young man who spends most of his time searching for new ways to get some cash. Though he may seem mercenary at times, Tamahome takes his duty as Miaka's protector very seriously. A family man at heart, he first sees Miaka as a little sister and offers to stand in as her temporary "oniichan". However, the relationship quickly turns into something less platonic and not long after that we see the three-word declaration. Despite the obvious fact that these two are crazy about each other, there always seem to be complications the prevent them from being together.

First there's Tamahome's reluctance to admit his feelings (*sigh* how utterly typical). Then there's the whole love triangle situation with Miaka, Tamahome, and all the other seishi who seem to be in love with their miko. Actually, to be accurate we'd have to call it a love hexagon of sorts *megitsune grins* Finally, there's that tiny little problem with both Miaka and Tamahome living in separate worlds. But of course true love conquers all and the wonderful writers give us a sappy ending as a reward for taking part in the obsession of Fushigi Yuugi-dom. SD Tamahome

I'd have to admit that I've never seen any couple so devoted to each other. What strikes me as admirable is that Tamahome is willing to give up everything for Miaka.  He puts his life on the line a countless number of times in order to save her, and trust me when I say it goes way beyond just duty. As for Miaka, she's just a normal girl who manages to learn much more about life by the end of her adventures.  Like most anime heroines, she loves to stuff herself with food but is an awful cook. She kinda reminds me of Usagi in Sailormoon, with her ditziness and all. Though she does have her moments, especially in the OAV's. As for the couple, the devotion of these two really makes FY worth watching, especially for all us romantic types out there.  Oh yeah, and the extremely large number of bishounen who appear in the series also help a great deal *winks wickedly*
