Now here is the part of my site that I've been
dying to make for the longest time but have never gotten around to. Hotohori is the honorable but lonely emperor of Konan who lives for
his country and hopes that one day a woman will come along and love him for
just being himself. Houki is one of the ladies of the imperial harem
(a harem which I assume Hothori doesn't visit all that often since he doesn't
seem to recognize Nuriko when he first appears). But before these two meet,
it seems that Hotohori has already given his heart to Suzaku no Miko, the
one woman who he believes will actually love him. What a bind! It
takes a horrid rejection from Miaka and the death of a fellow seishi to finally
bring these two together, and damn, the road is definitely a long and winding
one.
Hotohori is a man bound by his duties as the emperor of Konan. Combined with the fact that he's also one of the Suzaku seishi, you'd think that the man probably wouldn't have much time on his hands for things of a romantic nature. Well you'd be wrong because Hotohori finds plenty of time to obsess over Miaka. However, after being rejected, he decides to finally marry a woman who won't (or basically can't) reject him. I have no clue how these two met in the first place (actually I sorta do but since I can't read Japanese and I'm not entirely certain about the accuracy of my sources..let's just leave it at that). Despite not knowing the hows or whys, I think Hotohori and Houki make a beautiful couple. The only problem is that he's still sort of in love with Miaka. |
Why do I believe that Hotohori finally falls in
love with Houki at the end? Well first off, he's realized the uselessness
of pining after Miaka. Houki is also the mother of Hotohori's son,
Boushin, and even though you may doubt that he loves his wife, you cannot
deny that he loves his son (and of course those feelings I assume would extend
to Houki as well). Plus Hotohori probably could have his pick of all
the women living in the entire kingdom, so I doubt he'd randomly choose to
hook himself up with someone he couldn't stand. And the most important
reason why these two belong together? Simply put, Hotohori needs Houki.
And she seems to understand and love him as well, so I guess the question
is why wouldn't he love her? *grin* And I'll have to admit that after watching
the FY OAV's (which caused me to walk around in a state of depression for
a week due to the sadness of it all), I'm definitely more convinced that
Hotohori harbors at least some affection for his wife. And even if
he doesn't love her, I'd be perfectly happy to lie to myself and say that
he does =D
