Shinomori Aoshi is a ninja who became leader of the
Oniwabanshu in his early teens. Makimachi Misao is the granddaughter of the
previous okashira, who Aoshi helped to raise after her parents and grandparents
died. However, when Misao was only a few years old, Aoshi left her
with another member of the Oniwabanshu named Okina and left to work for an
evil man named Kanryuu. Many years later, Misao has grown up to become
a bubbly sixteen-year old girl with a mission - to find her Aoshi-sama and
bring him home. And thus begins another RuroKen love story which has
spawned countless numbers of fanfics, websites, mailing lists, and goodness
knows what else =D.
Tall and good-looking, Aoshi is handsome enough to give most women heart failure at first sight. The only problem is that he refuses to smile and doesn't talk much. But boy, when he does speak, does he have some wonderful quote material. He's also good at making threats hehe. But no matter how gorgeous he is, that tacky trenchcoat has got to go. Aoshi refuses to allow himself to feel anything for Misao (or maybe he does but is really good at hiding his feelings) because of the many horrible things he's done to her and the rest of the Oniwabanshu. |
It's the classic case of "she's too good for me so I'm gonna push her away". Of course, that must be the theme of most RuroKen couples cuz Kenshin seems to have the same problem. So instead of declaring his love, this ninja spends his time hiding out in a temple and meditating.Of course "the ghoulish weasel girl" is just the right person to try and pull Aoshi out of his morbidness. Misao's fun, cheerful, and incredibly determined. Of course, there's a ten-year age difference between her and the guy she wants to snag, but what's a few years in the overall scheme of things? She's also hot-tempered and a tomboy who gets teased because she looks like a baby. But don't count this girl out yet, cuz with her kunei and ninja skills, she's definitely got a few tricks up her sleeve. She also does those great melodramatic speeches and gets to throw tantrums once in a while (check out the part when she tries to jump a cliff while chasing after Kenshin! talk about gutsy!) |
Why are Aoshi and Misao one of the greatest couples? Well to tell you the truth, I'm not quite sure *megitsune grins sheepishly* I definitely think that Aoshi cares for Misao though (and we all know how Misao feels about her Aoshi-sama). In fact, my favorite RK episode for the longest time was episode 89, To My Angel Misao. I have to admit that I saw it so many times, it's been driving other people around me crazy (of course it has yet to drive me to the brink of insanity...and I plan to keep on watching it over and over again until I do go over the edge hehe). Come to think about it, sometimes I sorta think that Aoshi's feelings for Misao are more obvious than Kenshin's for Kaoru (well if you exclude the last volume of the manga of course hehe).
